Centro Cultural Japonés

Type

Aim
Construction of a cultural centre with an exhibition space, auditorium, school, administrative area, shops, offices and parking area.
Approach
Making use of two empty plots that connect two streets with different ambiances. Splitting the ground floor into two floors, the upper floor for public and recreational use and the lower floor for commercial use. The most important building was located on the main street, where the buildings were growing in height, while the side street had lower buildings, both elevated to allow for pedestrians to pass underneath. The facades of the buildings were made by using flat forms and the interior open spaces with more organic forms. Playing with flat shapes and light as is typical of Japanese architecture.
